Dr. Rahi Soren is currently Assistant Professor at Jadavpur University since 2019. She completed her research as a Ph.D. fellow in biological science concerning forest fire ecology in the remote locations of Bankura, West Bengal. She is interested in understanding the effective use of scientific information for conserving culture, habitat and biodiversity in the face of the growing threat of extinction. Alongside her scientific work, and arising in part from her field trips in that connection, Dr Soren has developed an interest and acquired interest in Santal culture including the manuscript heritage. Santali is a reviving language from endangerment;She is a native speaker of the language and actively participates in its revival. She has been the Principal Investigator of a National funded (RUSA 2.0) project entitled ‘Resource Mapping the Early Recordings of Traditional Santali Songs.’ Her current project (2021) is funded by the British Library, Endangered Archives Programme titled, ‘Locating and digitalizing early Santali periodicals published between 1890 and 1975 in Eastern India’ . She is also working on the project ‘Building Connections to Decolonise the Curriculum’ – a Collaborative Project between Jadavpur University and the University of Exeter. In addition to her institutional responsibilities she has also been involved with the Oral History Association of India (https://ohai.info/) in the capacity of the Executive Committee Member and have been an integral part of the organising committee of the Seventh OHAI Conference 2022 (https://ohai.info/seventh-ohai-conference-2022/). She has also published her research in national and international journals, conferences and organised workshops and seminars to promote scientific culture in global forums.
